The Commemoration Committee was created in memoriam of Vitali Silitski, the first director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS), outstanding Belarusian political scientist, public activist, and a blogger.
Vitali Silitski graduated from the Belarusian State University, specialisation in sociology. Got a Master degree from the Central European University in Hungary and a PhD from the Rutgers University (USA). Vitali was a fellow at the International Forum for Democratic Studies (National Endowment for Democracy, USA), and got visiting scholarship at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University.
Having a bright Western education, Vitali came back to Belarus where he left a great contribution in the development of Belarusian political science community.
After himself he left many ideas. Therefore, his friends and colleagues created the Commemoration Committee to continue the work started by Vitali. Among commemoration events - scholarship and nomination named after Silitski, publication of his books, etc.
Committee creators believe that on the example of Vitali Silitski it is possible to give an impetus to the whole range of young and talented researches to work in Belarus and for Belarus. Today and in future. To grow up a new generation of scientists.
About thirty famous Belarusian and foreign public figures and scientists have already joined the Committee.
